Non metallic gears can only be used for small explosion-proof electric drums with a power of less than 250W. Common non-metallic materials include polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, and monomer cast nylon. These materials have good tensile strength, impact toughness, rigidity, fatigue strength, and creep resistance, and are suitable for gears. Moreover, the above-mentioned materials have good wear resistance and heat resistance, as well as the advantages of low friction coefficient and good dimensional stability.
Non metallic explosion-proof electric drum gears can be machined on gear processing machines like metal gears. The plasticity of non-metallic materials can also be utilized for subsequent die-casting molding during plastic compression. Regardless of the method used, the accuracy of non-metallic gears produced is relatively low, generally below the 8th level accuracy specified in GB10095-88 "Precision of Gradual Cylindrical Gears" standard.
