Common faults of gearbox

Gearboxes are currently widely used in modern machinery, but as they are used for too long, various problems arise during use. So how should we solve these common faults when we encounter them?

1. The gearbox is overheating and leaking oil. The worm gear reducer uses non-ferrous metals as the worm gear and harder steel as the worm gear. In the process of sliding friction transmission, the heat generated will cause differences in thermal expansion between the various parts and seals of the machine, resulting in gaps between the mating surfaces, and the lubricating oil is prone to leakage after becoming thinner due to the increase in temperature.
2. Worn worm gear. The worm gear is made of tin bronze material and hardened to HRC4555 with 45 steel for pairing. The service life of the gearbox can reach ten years during normal operation. However, if the wear rate is fast, it is necessary to consider whether the selection is correct and whether it is operating under overload. Sometimes, the material, assembly quality, or usage environment of the worm gear can also affect the wear of the equipment.
3. The transmission small helical gear is worn. This situation is mainly related to the amount and variety of lubricating oil added. When installed vertically, it is easy to cause insufficient lubricating oil. When the reducer stops running, the transmission gear oil between the motor and the reducer is lost, which prevents the gears from receiving the necessary lubrication protection. When the machine starts, the gears do not receive effective lubrication, resulting in mechanical wear and even damage.
4. Worm bearing damaged. After running for a period of time, as the temperature of the gear oil increases and cools, the condensed water produced mixes with water. Even if the gearbox is well sealed, the gear oil will still be emulsified, and the bearings will rust, corrode, and be damaged.
